Vermont dispatcher fined in HOS case

| 4/4/2002

The chief dispatcher of a Vermont trucking company has been fined $1,000 for concealing driving records.

The U.S. Department of Transportation's Office of Inspector General fined Gary Chamberlain, the chief dispatcher and a driver for Northern Gas Transport Inc. of Lyndonville, VT, for helping the company conceal records that disclosed NGT drivers were driving in excess of hours permitted.

As a driver, Chamberlain falsified his own logs and as dispatcher, forced drivers to drive beyond the permissible time limits. The remaining defendants in this case, NGT and two of its other officials, will be sentenced April 19.
