Diesel at four-week high

The weekly retail on-highway diesel prices released by the Energy Department Monday show the national average cost of diesel increased slightly from last week at $1.156 per gallon - the highest price since mid-January. The price per gallon is 36 cents cheaper than one year ago.

The highest prices nationally are found in the New England region. Diesel there pumps for $1.29 per gallon. The lowest average prices are once again found in the Gulf Coast region. Fuel there is $1.126 per gallon.

The remaining regions' price per gallon is as follows: East Coast, $1.184; Central Atlantic, $1.273; Lower Atlantic, $1.135; Midwest, $1.13; Rocky Mountain, $1.14; and West Coast, $1.234; and California, $1.286, respectively.
