FBI issues terrorist attack warning

For the fourth time since September, the Federal Bureau of Investigation has issued a high level security warning to all Americans, at home and abroad, that a terrorist attack may be planned as early as today. The alert was issued on the fourth night of the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, officials said there was no intelligence suggesting the games were a possible target. Instead, they urged that all locations in the United States and abroad with Americans to be on guard.

In a memo disseminated to law enforcement agencies, the bureau announced as a result of U.S. military operations in Afghanistan and ongoing interviews of detainees in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, information has become available regarding threats to U.S. interests in the country of Yemen on or around Feb. 12, 2002. The memo also lists suspects sought by the bureau for information.
