Ice storm hits OOIDA headquarters as winter weather returns to Missouri

| Monday, February 04, 2002

After spring-like temperatures just a week ago, winter has returned to the Kansas City, MO area, including OOIDA headquarters in Grain Valley. Freezing rain and sleet caused mass power outages throughout the region, while OOIDA staff members attempted to keep the phone lines manned, and association websites operational.

As the storm swept through on Wednesday and Thursday, heavy ice accumulation on trees and power lines proved to be too much for local utility companies, resulting in power outages, computer system failures, and phone delays throughout OOIDA offices.

Although power has now been restored to many locations, much of the region remains affected by what is being called one of the worst storms in Kansas City history. However, OOIDA expects its offices to be back to normal by Monday at the latest.
