Four dead people were found Tuesday inside a shipping container in the the port city of Leghorn, Italy. News reports said the stowaways were Romanian. A customs official found the bodies in a container of floor tiles bound for Canada.

Last week, an Irish trucker heard muffled noises inside a shipping container of office furniture. Inside he found five refugees, nearly dead, and eight bodies, most of them from Turkey. News reports said the men, women and children were seeking a better life and had paid smugglers, who promised they would be in the dark, freezing container, no more than seven hours. The shipping container had arrived in Ireland after three days in transit.
