CVSA Executive Director Stephen Campbell has announced the appointment of Paul Bomgardner as Director of Administration for the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance, North America's leading commercial vehicle safety enforcement organization. He succeeds Larry Stern, a 30-year veteran in commercial vehicle safety, who is moving into a new assignment as CVSA's administrator for a Department of Energy program that develops inspection standards and training for hazardous materials and radioactive shipments.

Before joining the CVSA headquarters staff, Bomgardner had been with the American Trucking Associations since 1988 when he accepted a position as hazardous materials specialist. In June 1996, he was named ATA's director and manager of hazardous materials policy and technical issues.

Bomgardner also is a veteran Maryland State Police officer who began his carrier in 1977 as a trooper and went on to develop training and certification standards for commercial vehicle inspectors in the Maryland Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program. His MCSAP supervisory and responsibilities continued until he joined the ATA in December 1988.
