Road near Pentagon off limits to trucks

Amidst heightened concerns of commercial vehicles being used as rolling bombs by terrorists, a new traffic restriction is in place around the Pentagon. The ban is in effect until further notice.

The Department of Defense has instructed that tractor-trailers, trucks and charter buses be prohibited from using portions of Route 110 north of Jefferson Davis Highway, according to WJLA-TV in Washington, DC. The restriction includes Route 110 northbound between Interstate 395 and Route 27 (Washington Boulevard), and Route 110 southbound between I-66 and I-395.

In October, non-delivery trucks heavier than 1.25 tons were banned from a 40-block around the Capitol. Authorities claim the bans are safety precautions and not in response to a specific threat.
