Utah offers safety presentations for truckers

| Friday, October 26, 2001

Through its Truckers-n-Troopers program, the Utah Highway Patrol says it works with truckers and motor carriers to improve safety and the relationship between troopers and the trucking industry.

The program, which began on May 1, 1991, provides educational programs, classroom instruction for drivers, supervisors and company safety representatives, and on-site inspections at various carrier terminals. The troopers teach the classes, which are meant to provide a better understanding of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.

Pre-trip and post-trip inspections are one of the key safety issues stressed during classes, in addition to many other safety issues:

Safety Plus
Driver Hours of Service
Commercial Driver Licenses
"Fatigue -- A Driver's Worst Enemy"
Securing loads/tarping
Pre-trip and post-trip inspections
Following too closely
Oversize and overweight regulations
Winter driving tips
Aggressive driving and road rage
