Update: Fertilizer truck cab found

| Monday, October 22, 2001

The tractor from a stolen tractor-trailer carrying fertilizer and pesticides was found in Elizabeth, NJ, on Thursday, but the trailer has not been found, despite a nationwide alert. Authorities said they hoped the thief was unaware of what the truck was carrying and took it hoping it was carrying electronics or clothing that could be easily resold.

The cab was found abandoned on Route 1 and 9 at Bond Street. It was towed to a state police forensic laboratory for tests.

The truck was stolen Tuesday night or Wednesday morning from the loading dock of Rockland Corp. in Parsippany, NJ. The theft comes as concern spreads nationwide over the possible use of hazardous materials trucks in terrorist attacks.

The 45-foot 1998 Freuhauf trailer has "Rockland" in green letters on all four sides with New Jersey registration T392VD. Anyone with information should call the Parsippany, NJ police at (973) 263-4300.
