Copp Trucking closes its doors

Copp Trucking Co. has shut down operation after 23 years, blaming high fuel prices, recent labor troubles and other costs, according to The Business Journal of Kansas City. The company plans to sell its headquarters and liquidate its 175 tractors and 300 trailers.

The Business Journal also cited costs related to an accident in Iowa two years as a contributing cause. The accident left two dead, neither of whom were company employees, the Business Journal reported. A lawsuit resulting from the accident has yet to be resolved, but the company's liability is expected to exceed its insurance coverage.

The Kansas City, KS-based company employed about 300 and had $25 million in revenue for 2000.
