Copp Trucking Co. has
shut down operation after 23 years, blaming high fuel prices, recent labor
troubles and other costs, according to The Business Journal of Kansas City.
The company plans to sell its headquarters and liquidate its 175 tractors
and 300 trailers.
The Business Journal
also cited costs related to an accident in Iowa two years as a contributing
cause. The accident left two dead, neither of whom were company employees,
the Business Journal reported. A lawsuit resulting from the accident has yet
to be resolved, but the company's liability is expected to exceed its insurance
The Kansas City, KS-based
company employed about 300 and had $25 million in revenue for 2000.
