Mary Peters waits for confirmation as FHWA administrator

Earlier this summer, President Bush nominated Mary E. Peters as his choice for the position of Administrator of the Federal Highway Administration, but to date, the Senate has not completed the necessary confirmation process.

Peters has served with the Arizona Department of Transportation in a variety of positions since 1998, and has been Director of the Department since 1998. She has also served as Deputy Director of the Department, Deputy Director for Administration, Contract Administrator and Contract Manager. Peters has served as a member of numerous civic organizations and is a graduate of the University of Phoenix.

Peters is also known for her involvement in national organizations in recent years, including the American Association of State Highway Officials and ITS America where Peters chairs AASHTO's Standing Committee on Planning and its Asset Management Taskforce. She also serves on ITS America's board of directors.
