NYDOT asks truckers helping with relief effort to call ahead

The New York State Transportation Department has asked truckdrivers who may be hauling relief supplies for the World Trade Center recovery efforts to call ahead.

The transportation department said that while they are thankful so many people have donated goods, storage facilities are limited. Truckers are asked to call the World Trade Center Relief Fund at 1-800-801-8092 before beginning any trip with relief supplies.

The state has established five donation warehouses to accept goods that are en route to New York City. Three sites are in New York State, one is in Connecticut and one more in New Jersey. Drivers should be prepared to release a manifest to the warehouse manager upon arrival so that the donated items can be stored properly and easily retrieved as needed.
