Massachusetts city bans trucks on three streets

| Wednesday, January 22, 2003

City officials in Dalton, MA, have endorsed a decision by the state’s highway department to ban heavy commercial truck traffic from three streets in the community, The Berkshire Eagle reported Jan. 21.

The streets covered by the decision – High Street, John Street and Orchard Road – were being used by trucks to get access to a gravel plant and as shortcuts between state highways in the area.

Residents had asked city officials to enact the ban because of noise concerns and because one of the roads, which is popular with pedestrians, has no sidewalks.
