A Miami man
has received a five-month prison sentence for his role in a bribery
scheme to help unqualified truckdrivers obtain commercial driver’s
licenses, The Chicago Tribune reported.
was sentenced in federal court in Chicago Jan. 14 for acting as
a middleman in a bribery scheme in which an estimated 100 unqualified
drivers, many from Illinois, received CDLs in Florida.
that from 1997 to 2000, he helped applicants, most of whom were
Eastern European or Russian immigrants with limited English, cheat
on written and driving tests in return for bribes of up to $1,300.
Gregus, who was also ordered to serve five months of home detention
after his prison term, became the 50th defendant to
plead guilty in the federal Operation Safe Road probe.
