Texas troopers use "radar detector detectors"

| Friday, January 18, 2002

The Texas Department of Public Safety announced earlier this week it has armed troopers with a new weapon to detect if truckers are using radar detectors. The new devices, dubbed radar detector detectors, will enable the state's License and Weight troopers to detect and pull over and ticket truckers for simply operating a radar detector.

The state police bought 101 of the detector detectors - about $1,500 each - with grant money from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. DPS plans to get 43 more by June. The new and future purchases will equip nearly all License and Weight patrol vehicles in the state with the devices.
