Certain International
2001 models are among the October recalls announced this week
by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration because
of the possibility of losing headlights.
About 14,000
International 4300 and 4400s built between October 2000 and September
2001 could experience a loss of the low beam headlights, the high
beam headlights, or both. A software problem within the Electrical
System Controller can cause the circuit for the low beam or the
circuit for the high beam headlights to fuse or open.
NHTSA says
dealers will reprogram the ESC. International reported that owner
notification began in October. Owners who do not receive a free
remedy within a reasonable time should contact International at
1-800-448-7825.
Consumers
can get up-to-the-minute information on safety recalls, or information
on the recall history of a particular make and model of vehicle
by calling the agency's toll-free Auto Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236,
or on the Internet at www.nhtsa.dot.gov.
The Hotline also can be used to report safety problems.
