OTA promotes Smart Driver workshops

| Friday, January 04, 2002

Smart Driver is a drivers' training workshop designed to teach the skills needed to become a fuel efficient driver. These workshops will directly provide a learning opportunity for instructors, owner-operators or company drivers.

The workshops, designed by FleetSmart (an information program of the Office of Energy Efficiency of Natural Resources Canada), are aimed at assisting fleets in reducing operating costs.

As well as training drivers, the OTA sponsored events will also provide a learning opportunity for instructors during "train-the-instructor" training sessions.

The session will cover factors that affect fuel efficiency; vehicle care and inspections; driving practices and recommendations; and defensive driving for fuel efficiency.

Members of the Ontario Trucking Association may attend the session for free. Non-members are asked to pay a $20 fee. Dates for courses are as follows: March 4, and April 8, 2002, for the instructor course, and April 17 for the driver course.

Pre-registration is mandatory. For a registration form call Shelly Hill at (416) 249-7401 or e-mail shill@ontruck.org.
