Oil and diesel prices will be highest in first few months of 2012, analyst says
The highest prices for diesel fuel and crude oil in 2012 will likely occur during the first few months of the year according to the Oil Price Information Service. The upward pressure on prices has as much to do with diesel demand as with political tensions and a possible oil embargo in Iran.
IFC official says Cross Creek will reopen
Cross Creek Trucking laid off more than 200 truck drivers in December 2011 because of "restructuring." A company official announced on Tuesday, Jan. 17, that Cross Creek will reopen in the near future, but with a much smaller fleet of trucks initially.
Ohio bill would raise speed limit to 70 mph
Truckers and other drivers traveling Ohio's interstates could soon travel the same speed as they do on the Ohio Turnpike and in neighboring states. Rep. Ron Maag, R-Salem Township, introduced a bill that would increase the speed limit on the state's interstates from 65 mph to 70 mph. Left-lane use would also be restricted on affected roadways.
Diesel average at $3.854 for the week, up 2.6 cents
The U.S. Energy Information Administration reported the average price for on-highway diesel at $3.854 per gallon, an increase of 2.6 cents during the week ending Monday, Jan. 16.
Front-end mirrors required for certain New York City trucks
A new law now in effect is designed to eliminate blind spots for truck drivers traveling in New York City. Since Friday, Jan. 13, large trucks base-plated in New York are required to have front-end mirrors installed if traveling through any of the five boroughs. An exception is made for trucks operating solely on New York City expressways.
