In commemoration of the life of one of Minnesota’s most beloved native sons and an international music legend, Prince, Gov. Mark Dayton has directed the Minnesota Department of Transportation to continue the purple lighting on the Interstate 35W bridge in Minneapolis through the weekend.
Prince was found dead at age 57 on Thursday morning at his Paisley Park compound in Chanhassen, Minn. An autopsy is scheduled for today.
“Prince, and his music, defined an era,” Dayton said. “His tremendous talent was matched only by his generosity and commitment to improving his community. Minnesotans and our nation mourn the loss of a great artist today, one who has left an unforgettable mark on music history, and whose contributions to the betterment of our state will be remembered for years to come.”
The I-35W bridge is equipped with a computerized lighting system that allows the agency to color the bridge with light in almost any color. It is often lit in various colors for significant regional and national events.
