SPECIAL REPORT: Threat level remains at orange

| 1/7/2004

The high terror alert will continue as the nation enters the post-holiday period, but U.S. officials say they're continually evaluating information that still justifies code orange, The Associated Press reported.

The orange alert, the second highest of five color-coded threat levels, was announced Dec. 21.

Travel and other industries passed the holiday season without incident. But human intelligence, computerized watch lists and intercepted communications continue to suggest that attacks may be planned, U.S. authorities said in explaining the decision to continue strict security.
