SPECIAL REPORT: Senate OKs measure to ban ANWR oil exports

| 11/3/2005

The U.S. Senate overwhelmingly approved an amendment that would prohibit exporting any of the oil and natural gas that might be produced by drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska Thursday, Nov. 3.

The vote was 83 to 16 with one Senator not voting.

The amendment to the budget reconciliation bill, offered by Sen. Ron Wyden, D-OR, and Sen. Jim Talent, R-MO, assures that all the natural gas and oil produced from drilling in ANWR would stay in the United States and help reduce the nation's dependence on fossil fuel and to lessen our dependence on foreign sources.

Others who co-sponsored of the amendment were Sen Byron Dorgan of North Dakota, Sen. Diane Feinstein of California, Sen. Mark Dayton of Minnesota and Wisconsin Sens. Herb Kohl and Russell Feingold.
