Truckers who are waiting to hear the official word on the inclusion of the fuel surcharge in the highway funding bill are going to have to wait a little longer - again.
The news out of Washington, DC, on the afternoon of Thursday, July 28, was that a House-Senate conference committee has agreed on the major provisions and a report from the committee was due to be voted on by the House. But what those provisions are - and whether they include a surcharge - haven't officially been made public.
However, even with the agreement reached, an 11th extension of the funding levels from the expired 1998 Highway Bill was needed. It was approved Wednesday, July 27, extending the funding through July 30.
House representatives said they would not look at the committee report until they had voted on the Energy Bill and the Central American Free Trade Agreement. Both of those votes occurred on Thursday, July 28.
