Australian truckers win concessions

| 8/4/2008

In spite of the fact that their strike ended after just two days, long-haul truckers in Australia seem to have made their point.

Today’s Trucking reported that the Australian government now plans to guarantee truckers a base rate of pay, to force carriers to pay drivers within 30 days, and to establish a tribunal to resolve disputes.

The truckers originally planned to strike for two weeks to protest high fuel prices and new hours-of-service rules that carry stiff fines.
