A Wisconsin trucking company plans to lay off 340 employees because of rising fuel costs.

The Wausau Daily Herald reported WH Transportation Co. of Kronenwetter, WI, will keep its flatbed division but is doing away with its van operations. The layoffs will affect company drivers, owner-operators and support personnel based in Wisconsin, Ohio and Georgia.

Co-owner Tom Schuette is quoted as saying, “The industry cannot raise rates sufficiently to cover the increases (in fuel costs).” The company will keep 80 employees in its Wisconsin offices.
