Florida tops the nation in fatalities for teen drivers

| 5/15/2008

A study on crash statistics released by Allstate Insurance Co. shows Florida leading the nation in terms of death rates for teen drivers.

The study was based on recent federal crash statistics, Allstate claims data on teen collisions, and U.S. Census Bureau statistics.

The three cities with the highest death rates for teens driving are the Tampa/St. Petersburg, Orlando and Jacksonville areas.

Allstate has a public awareness campaign under way that includes courses aimed at reducing the impact of distracted driving practices such as texting and talking on the phone while driving.
