‘Run for the Wall’ on the road again

| 5/14/2008

This week and next, truckers who pass hundreds of bikers traveling west to east may be encountering the annual “Run to the Wall.” The coast-to-coast ride, which began in 1989, starts in Southern California and ends at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC.

It’s a trip that Vietnam veterans and veterans of other wars take each May to call attention to veterans’ issues.

There are two routes this year. A central route will pass through Gallup, NM; Burlington, CO; Kansas City, MO; and Charleston, WV. The southern route goes through Phoenix, AZ; Dallas, TX; Jackson, MS; and Knoxville, TN.

The bikers were scheduled to leave Los Angeles Wednesday morning, May 14, and arrive in DC on the weekend before Memorial Day. The Rolling Thunder Parade is scheduled for Sunday, May 25. More than 350,000 motorcycles are expected to start from the Pentagon parking lots, parade through downtown Washington, and end at the Wall.
