A 57-year-old truck driver was apparently shot and killed early Tuesday morning as he closed up shop at a warehouse he leased, according to news reports.

Before leaving for a long haul, Wayne Fehrm of Chesapeake, VA, was closing and locking the gate to the warehouse he, according to WVEC-TV. Someone shot him as he stood next to his rig, and Fehrm’s body was found at 2 a.m. on Tuesday, June 26.

The Rev. Larry Coleman of Churchland Baptist Church told WVEC-TV that Fehrm’s wallet and cell phone were sitting on his rig’s passenger seat.

Fehrm was on his way to Washington state, hoping to make it home in time for his wife’s birthday, the television station reported.
