I-29 reopens in Iowa as storm batters Carolinas’ coasts

| 5/8/2007

While this past weekend’s deadly tornadoes in Kansas continue to make headlines, severe weather is continuing to cause problems in other parts of the country.

A 40-mile stretch of Interstate 29 north of Council Bluffs, IA, reopened to traffic late Monday after being shut down due to flooding.

On Tuesday morning, all interstates in Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska and Oklahoma were reported open, but flooding was still causing detours on numerous state highways as rivers and streams crested.

On the east coast, a powerful storm was drifting southward down the cost of the Carolinas, producing high winds and heavy rain.
