Truck traffic at the Port of Long Beach was noticeably lighter Tuesday as many Hispanic drivers took part in immigration rights demonstrations and protested working conditions at the ports.
However, port spokesman Art Wong told “Land Line Now” on XM Satellite Radio that many container trucks were moving – as opposed to May 1, 2006, when about 90 percent shut down.
Rachel Campbell, spokeswoman at the Port of Los Angeles, said container cargo at her port was moving as usual.
Campbell said there apparently was a protest at one terminal, but that overall, truck traffic was normal.
