A second 100-ton bridge expansion joint is on its way to the Tacoma Narrows Bridge project on the west coast of Washington state.
KIRO-TV reports that the steel and neoprene structure arrived by truck at Spokane, WA, on Friday and was scheduled to be transferred to another truck today.
The first expansion joint made news when the truck hauling it was stopped at the Washington-Idaho border by inspectors who said the load wasn’t properly configured.
It was eventually transferred to another truck to complete the journey. This time, the bridge contractor decided to use the same transfer technique – minus the long delay.
