is building a new toll road near San Diego that is expected to relieve
some of the traffic problems near one of the area’s border crossings
with Mexico, The San Diego Channel reported recently.
new road will extend state Route 125 9.3 miles from state Route
54 to state Route 905.
end of the new extension is near the Otay Mesa international border
crossing, the television station reported.
highway is being built through a partnership with California Transportation
Ventures, a private firm.
to the firm’s Web site, the highway extension, which will be called
the San Miguel Mountain Parkway, will complete the San Diego area’s
north-south freeway network, and connect industrial areas with residential
areas in Chula Vista.
extension is actually 11 miles long, but the first 1.5 miles is
being publicly financed. The remainder is being constructed privately
through a bill passed in California in 1989.
road will initially have two lanes in each direction, with room
to expand to three or four lanes each direction in the future.
