Four nabbed in shrimp heist

Four men were charged this week with stealing a truckload of shrimp valued at more than $250,000 from an Elizabeth, NJ trucking company, AP reports.

The men, some of whom worked in the restaurant industry, are accused of stealing 45,000 pounds of shrimp. They were arrested Aug. 7 and 8. The empty 40-foot trailer was found abandoned in New York on July 24.

The FBI said the men hid the trailer in a warehouse and kept it refrigerated while selling off its contents. Only 1,600 of the 3,600 cases of B-Tiger brand shrimp were recovered. One of those arrested is a former driver for the trucking company. The four men could get up to 10 years in prison if convicted. A fifth suspect was being sought.
