Illinois set to begin multiple improvement projects

| 7/3/2002

Roads crews are scheduled to begin multiple reconstruction projects near Chicago Monday, July 8. Lane closures will be in place Monday morning for the start of advance work being done for next year's reconstruction of I-290/IL 53 in northwest suburban Chicago.

During 2003, a four-mile section of I-290/IL 53 from IL 72 to Thorndale Avenue will be completely reconstructed. Auxiliary lanes will be built in both directions between the entrance/exit ramps from IL 72 to Biesterfield Road and from Biesterfield Road to Thorndale Avenue. The advance work includes the removal of the median and the placement of a temporary pavement for vehicle crossovers.

Traffic along the stretch of road will be reduced from four to three lanes in each direction. The far-left lane of northbound I-290/IL 53 will be closed Monday at 5:30 a.m. The following morning, the far-left southbound lane will also be closed. The configuration is scheduled to remain in place until Oct. 31.

In addition, the southbound I-55 exit to southbound I-94 in Chicago will be closed Monday. It will remain closed until Oct. 11. The posted detour for trucks is to use the ramp to northbound I-94 and turn around at the Canalport Avenue interchange.
