| 6/21/2002

Drivers are advised to expect "significant congestion" near Chicago as three ramps will be closed for reconstruction beginning this weekend. If possible, travelers are encouraged to plan ahead and to use alternate routes through October.

An interchange improvement project for I-55 at the Tri-State Tollway (I-294) moves into its final stage of construction this weekend. The project will replace and widen two bridges and reconstruct and realign five ramps.

The southbound I-55 ramp to northbound I-294 will re-open to traffic Saturday, June 22. At the same time, two ramps from southbound I-294 to northbound I-55 and to Joliet Road will close.

On June 25, the ramp from northbound I-55 to northbound I-294 will also be shut down. All three ramps will remain closed until Oct. 31 - the project's scheduled completion date. For detour information and maps, visit
