NC to boost review of DMV enforcement practices

North Carolina will increase oversight of the Division of Motor Vehicles in response to recent allegations of ticket-fixing and bribery, the AP reported. An ongoing two-year investigation has centered on allegations that supervisors told DMV officers not to show up in court after issuing citations for trucking violations.

Officers have also complained of pressure to raise campaign funds for politicians while on the job. In a related development, the Asheville Citizen-Times reported April 24 the DMV issues citations to non-truckers nine times more often than truckers.
