Gas Transport, a hauler of hazardous materials in New England,
New York and Quebec was fined $75,000 and placed on probation
for five years last Friday for falsifying logs.
to the Rutland Herald, Bruce Grant, owner of Northern Gas was
sentenced in federal court to two years probation, 100 hours
community service and a $5,000 fine. Bradly Grant, Bruce Grant's
son and safety director at the trucking company was sentenced
to two years probation and 100 hours of community service. Gary
Chamberlain, a dispatcher, previously was sentenced in March
to four months of home confinement.
pleaded guilty to charges that they asked drivers to falsify
logs, lied to the U.S. Department of Transportation and concealed
documents from the Federal Highway Administration during a 1999
attorney reportedly said the review was prompted by an unusually
large number of incidents charged to company drivers. During
the review investigators found 360 false logs filed by 35 drivers
from December 1999 to June 2000.
