The Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety Belt Partnership, of which the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association is a member, has announced the deadline of Feb. 28, 2014, to receive entries for its annual kids’ art contest, “Be Ready. Be Buckled.”
The theme for this year’s contest is “Crayons can save lives, too.” The contest focuses on urging truck, bus and all drivers to buckle up to save lives. The contest is for kids in grades K-6 (ages 5-12), who have a relative or sponsor in the truck and bus industries. Artwork from 12 winners will be featured in a 2015 calendar and will receive a certificate of appreciation from the CMV Safety Belt Partnership.
Two grand prize winners will be picked from each of the two age groups, including K-2 and grades 3-6, from the artwork entries focused on the message that “safety belts save lives.” Winners will be honored at an awards ceremony in early May 2014 at the U.S. Department of Transportation Headquarters. Previous winners include children of OOIDA members, whose artwork has been displayed in previous calendars.
The awards ceremony is held in conjunction with the American Society of Safety Engineers’ North American Occupational Safety and Health Week May 4-10, 2014.
