The colossal event that is known in the trucking industry as MATS returns March 21-23 to Louisville. Land Line staffers will be on the scene, reporting on all the sights and sounds of the “largest heavy-duty trucking event in the world.

One bit of business you can take care of is sharing your thoughts and opinions on entry-level driver training requirements. The Mid-America Truck Show will be the site of the next FMCSA public listening session to solicit ideas and information on the issue of entry-level training for drivers of commercial motor vehicles. The public listening session will occur on Friday, March 22, 2013, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., in room C101. The session is open to the general public, no registration required at MATS. The session will be webcast.
If sexy show trucks are your thing, the Paul K. Young Truck Beauty Championship is a must see. Those trucks will be in Lot J behind the West Wing.

Your ears won’t want to miss country music’s Randy Houser live in concert on Friday, March 22, in the Freedom Hall of the Kentucky Expo Center. Houser will treat the audience to songs from his new album, “How Country Feels,” as well as his other hits. Opening for him are The Diesel Outlaws from Nashville, TN, performing a collection of songs about trucking. This free show is courtesy of Mobil Delvac. Visit Booth 18160 in the North Wing for a complimentary ticket. They’ll be handing them out during show hours while supplies last.
Truckers themselves are organizing some of the attractions. OOIDA Member Linda Caffee says the Trucking Solutions Group will again co-host the MATS Driver Health Awareness walk with TA/Petro. Registration is in Room B-103 starting at 2 pm on Friday. The 1.5 mile walk will begin shortly afterward. Participants will each receive a special gift. Women In Trucking will once again give a “Salute to Women Behind the Wheel” at MATS. Professional female drivers may RSVP for the salute at salute2women.com. The ladies are invited to join WIT on Saturday for a celebration that will include recognition for outstanding safety and accomplishments in the industry. Guests can also enjoy music, food, prizes and goodie bags.
