Since 2008, OOIDA Member John Leistra from Mount Brydges, Ontario, has been donating change to the St. Christopher Truckers Development and Relief Fund. He donated 22.6 pounds of change at the 2012 Mid-America Trucking Show and is asking other drivers to donate their change with the goal of collecting 80,000 pounds of coins for the fund.

The campaign is called the Big Rig of Change. Proceeds will benefit the St. Christopher Fund, which assists drivers suffering from financial hardship due to medical problems.

To participate, drivers can save their change and bring it to a number of trucking events, such as the Walcott Truckers Jamboree, Expedite Expo, the Great Lakes Truck Show and the Great American Trucking Show. Look for the TA/Petro/SCF booths at any of these shows.

The collection of coins will continue until the ‘big rig’ is filled with 80,000 pounds of donated change.
