Investigators have released the name of the truck driver who was killed in a fiery crash on Interstate 44 near Springfield, MO, on Tuesday, June 19.
Gerald Rivard Jr., 54, of Idlewild, MI, was killed after his 1999 Freightliner drifted onto the shoulder in the westbound lane on I-44, later sideswiping another tractor-trailer, a 2009 Kenworth, that was broken down on the shoulder of the westbound lane. Rivard’s rig then caught on fire, rolled down an embankment, landing upside down. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Springfield Police Sgt. Tom Luellen, supervisor of the traffic division, told Land Line that Rivard drove for Carolina National Transportation, based out of Gary, IN.
Police are not releasing the name of the driver of the Kenworth, who was not injured in the crash, but did state that he drove for 3D Trucking based in California.
