On June 19, U.S. Rep. George R. Nethercutt Jr., R-WA, signed on as a cosponsor of U.S. House Concurrent Resolution 164.
The measure, introduced by Rep. Sam Graves, R-MO, would establish a National Truck Safety Month each year. The resolution asks President George W. Bush to issue a proclamation commending all truckers for their extra effort this June to comply with truck safety regulations.
Nethercutt, a resident of Spokane, represents Washington state's 5th Congressional District. He was first elected to represent that district in 1994, when he defeated then-Speaker of the House Tom Foley in the first defeat of a sitting speaker since 1860. He serves on the House Committee on Appropriations and the House Science Committee.
