Early in June, officials at Road Law, a firm that specializes in helping truckers, said they had seen a drop in out-of-service and logbook violations as June Safety Month began.
Now that June is nearly over, a partner at the firm says that judging by the number of calls they’re getting, many truckers have spent the entire month in strict compliance.
“In terms of the types of violations we discussed, we’ve seen a drop in those types of calls,” James Mennella said. “We’re still getting the normal run-of-the-mill type of traffic infractions. But if we’re talking out-of-service orders, and some of the more hard-core logbook charges and misdemeanors, we’ve seen a decrease in that.”
Mennella and partner Jeff McConnell said that previously, the firm received 15 to 20 calls every week from truckers fighting citations for violating out-of-service orders.
At the start of June, they received about four a week. Now, Mennella said, “maybe one or two at the most.”
“It’s way down in terms of people calling about out-of-service issues,” Mennella said. Until the start of June, Road Law “had a huge influx of people who had been put out of service who either left too soon or made a mistake and moved.”
“People have been paying attention to the Run Compliant month,” he said. “It’s been working, at least on our end.”
