Officials with Australian toll road operator Transurban have admitted to making $172,000 in illegal contributions to 90 political campaigns in the state of Virginia.

While lawmakers in the Pennsylvania House were busy ripping a bill to authorize a lease of the Pennsylvania Turnpike, the state's Senate passed a bill that would allow for public-private partnerships.

Gov. Bob Riley has signed a bill into law that requires motorists in Alabama to carry more liability insurance.

"There were signs posted everywhere that said there was a four-hour maximum on parking because of a county ordinance that limits the number of hours trucks can park there," Sullivan told Land Line on Wednesday, July 2.

Although many truckers go out of their way to avoid any interaction with highway patrol officers, an upcoming summit hosted by the California Highway Patrol actually encourages truckers to participate. The CHP will host the Commercial Vehicle Safety Summit on Aug. 19-21 at the Hyatt Regency Newport Beach Hotel in Newport Beach, CA.

The California Air Resources Board has planned several upcoming public workshops to discuss "technical methodologies" of its ever-changing, in-use, on-road, heavy-duty diesel truck rule. The proposed rule would essentially require 1.5 million trucks to meet 2007 emission standards by the year 2012.

Truckers are all too familiar with the federal highway use tax for heavy vehicles, also known as the HUT or HVUT tax. It's that $550 fee you pay each year when you file an IRS Form 2290. For trucks and other taxable vehicles in use during July, the Form 2290 and payment are due on Aug. 31.
