"Liberty & Justice" for all

By George Parker III, special to Land Line

The "Liberty and Justice" military tribute truck owned by OOIDA Member Tom Liegel and wife Billie was easily the most photographed bobtail at Guilty by Association's 2015 truck show. More than 4,000 square feet of vinyl covers the 2007 Kenworth T2000 with patriotic images ranging from the War of Independence to Iraq war photographs of relatives recently, and currently still, deployed with the Army.

Thomas shared the task of researching and collecting pictures with Billie for more than six months before a design was finalized and their vision was actually realized. It's clear a deep respect for family military service is one of the driving forces behind their tribute. Images of military headstones for Thomas's grandfather and great uncle are perfectly fitted on each side mirror, and give the whole presentation a quiet respect the Leigel family feel that all veterans and service members deserve.

It's easy to see why the truck evokes strong emotions - telling the American story of 10 wars and her brave men and women who fought them in a vast panorama of color that takes time to fully appreciate and absorb. LL
