Take one weekend of bright blue Kansas sky, add the high-energy excitement of a world class motorsports facility and plenty of chrome, and you’ve got the formula for a birthday celebration to remember.
After months of negotiating the right time and just the right place, OOIDA’s 40th birthday party is solidly on the calendar for fall of 2013. The Association’s president and CEO Jim Johnston has announced that details have been nailed down, and the Heart of America Trucking Show is in the works for Oct. 18-19 at the Kansas Speedway.
“Forty years of representing professional drivers is a milestone that gives our members and friends a great reason to celebrate,” said Johnston. “We think we’ve got a good time slot and an exceptional venue in a world-class motorsports facility like the Kansas Speedway.”
OOIDA Director of Marketing Mike Schermoly said more details would be available in the weeks to come, but attendees could count on two days of camaraderie, good food, entertainment, educational seminars, truck competitions, music, vendor displays and more.
The speedway is located at the intersection of I-435 and I-70 in Kansas City, KS, about 15 miles west of downtown Kansas City and less than an hour west of OOIDA’s Grain Valley, MO, headquarters.
Kansas Speedway is on 1,200 acres and has several buildings, garages and suites to hold private events. There is plenty of parking and there are lots of great places to stay in the area if you’re with your family. If you are in your truck, the facility has three areas for overnight camping.
The average temperature in eastern Kansas in mid-October is a high of 68 degrees, a low of 49.
Kansas Speedway annually hosts national NASCAR events, which includes two NASCAR Sprint Cup Series events.
Kansas City in October … Mark your calendars and watch for details. LL
