In the fall of 2004, OOIDA launched TruckVote, an initiative focused on giving truckers the tools to become active, informed voters.
The project involves a website, TruckVote.com, which helps truckers with registering. It also has information about OOIDA and its mission, the Association’s national legislative priorities, state legislative happenings, an up-to-date “feed” of recent important national votes, tips on contacting lawmakers and more.
When truckers go to the TruckVote.com website, there is a link that takes you to VoteSmart.org. OOIDA’s partnership with Project Vote Smart provides truckers with access to additional tools to help educate them for Election Day.
VoteSmart.org provides independent non-partisan information on a public officeholder’s recent key votes, speeches and advocacy group ratings. The site also allows visitors to search by state for any ballot measures.
On the TruckVote site there is a link titled “How to register.” After clicking the link, visitors will be sent to a page where you can scroll through a listing of states. After choosing their home state, residents can access specific information about the state’s registration rules.
For each state, residents will get information that includes the registration deadline, qualifications to vote, how to obtain a voter registration form, information on absentee voting and how to find your polling place.
When it comes to registration information, and other essential voting details, TruckVote.com is about as handy and simple as you could want. LL
