CVSA Executive Director Stephen Campbell said the vehicle OOS rate was the lowest in 21 years. Officials reported a vehicle OOS rate of 23.9 percent during the June 3-5 blitz in the U.S. and Canada. Mexico participated in the event, but its stats had not been released as of press time.
The most common equipment violation continues to be brakes, which composed 52.6 percent of the total violations in 2008. Inspectors placed 5.3 percent of drivers out of service this year, an improvement over the 2007 rate of 6.2 percent. LL
