FMCSA's new reg on parts and accessories opened a big can of worms in late 2005. The confusion centered on how many lights were allowed on the top horizontal line of commercial trucks and trailers. The confusion is being sorted out via a pending rulemaking pushed through by the Truck Manufacturers Association.
Meanwhile, an OOIDA enforcement moratorium request has been granted. The moratorium stems from a request made by OOIDA officials during a meeting with former FMCSA Administrator Annette Sandberg on Feb. 1.
With the issue in limbo, FMCSA will request enforcement officials conducting roadside inspections refrain from citing truckers on the light limit.
