Hot times in Las Vegas

In spite of predicted triple-digit temperatures, thousands of truckers headed for the Las Vegas Convention Center for the International Trucking Show (ITS). The show kicked off with a parade of chromed and polished show trucks down Las Vegas Boulevard on June 27. This was followed by three days of exhibits, giveaways, workshops, focus groups, seminars, a truck beauty contest, and town hall meetings on proposed hours of service regulations and NAFTA issues.

Sixty-five trucks were entered in the Show and Shine competition, hosted by ITS. OOIDA members took home 22 trophies including the three top awards. Best of Show Bobtail (and two additional trophies) went to Russ & Debbie Brown of Oklahoma City, OK. Bryan Swartz of Plainfield, PA, picked up Best of Show Combination and two other awards. Participants' Choice (and two other trophies) went to Joe & Michelle Tyler of Harve, MT.

Other multiple category winners included OOIDA members Chris and Chelley Lewis of Jackson, MO, (two awards), and Jim and Wanda Cruikshank of Tucson, AZ, (two awards).

Other OOIDA member winners were Dan and Katie Kimball of Burlington, WI; Rob Basse of Joplin, MO; Ron Kelsey of Peoria, AZ; Tom Montgomery of Foothill Ranch, CA; Dee Jones of Grain Valley, MO; Arnie and Brenda Frankie of Bentleyville, PA; Bob and Suzanne Stempinski of Skokie, IL; and Tod L.
