The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced recalls on 675 Freightliner 1999 model year trucks and more than 1,500 Internationals made in January. The trucks are equipped with Meritor automatic slack adjusters that could gradually lose adjustment. Owners can expect to be notified immediately. In another recall, more than 4,000 Navistar International heavy-duty trucks made March-October 1998, have a steering axle problem that could cause spindle failure and loss of control.
